Your Host,

Kitty Pallesen

I am the proud founder of Kitty’s Wildlife Refuge & Rescue, nestled in the picturesque Sky Valley of Coachella Valley, California. My journey into wildlife conservation was inspired by my mother, a 1947 college graduate who aspired to become a veterinarian but was discouraged due to prevailing gender norms of her time. She became my mentor and ignited my passion for animal care.

For the past 28 years, I have dedicated myself to rescuing and providing sanctuary to the diverse wildlife of this region. Our refuge is home to hundreds of indigenous desert animals, including rabbits, squirrels, roadrunners, coyotes, ravens, hawks, doves, songbirds, and tortoises. We also offer a specialized tortoise sanctuary and an aviary, which are integral to our conservation efforts.

The refuge thrives with constant animal activity set against a serene natural backdrop, making it a perfect place for nature lovers to observe and connect with wildlife. Visitors are welcome to join us in the mornings when the temperatures are cooler. During the midday heat of summer, our animals take a restful break, and we encourage our guests to do the same! Each visit supports our ongoing efforts to protect and nurture these magnificent creatures and their habitats.

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you”.

–Jane Goodall
